Weekend of Local Fare

If you’re in the Philly (or surrounding) area, this weekend is full of local food, beer and wine. Tis the season for festivals and fun outdoor events! Here’s what we’ll be checking out:

This Saturday…

fare_web_adFARE is an event brought to you by Fermented Productions in conjunction with the Doylestown Fire Company No. 1, a 100% volunteer firehouse. (A portion of the proceeds will benefit the fire dept.) Also sponsored by the Iron Abbey Gastro Pub and Philly Beer Scene, the event will take place at the “Fuge” in Warminster. The Centrifuge is a big piece of American History, where astronauts came to train for the “Race to the Moon“. Today it is a museum that still holds some of the original equipment. Also an events venue, FARE will take place here this Saturday.

The doors will open from 12-1pm for a VIP session where local brewers and chefs will be presenting their craft in small group sessions. General Admission will take place from 1-4pm where you can sample a large variety of local beers, wines, spirits and food. All attendees will receive a souvenir glass to enjoy drink samples.

FARE will be providing shuttle services to and from the Warminster Train Station throughout the duration of the event. Fermented Productions does not condone drinking and driving and strongly encourages all of the event’s attendees to plan their festival trip to include a designated driver.

This Sunday…

This is the second year for the Philly Farm & Food Fest. Last year was a big success and this year will prove to be even better. They have added a Local Libations Lounge! That’s right, aside from sampling fresh and healthy foods from local vendors, plenty of workshops and farm-to-table demos, you can also sample some hand-selected premium Pennsylvania spirits. There will be guided tastings held every hour. You must be at least 21 to purchase tickets and show photo ID to enter the Libations Lounge.

In addition, this year you will have to the chance to buy some sustainable meats from local farms. There will also be a book signing with the founder and former owner of White Dog Cafe, Judy  Wicks. There will be plenty of activities for children, including games and interactive exhibits from the Please Touch Museum and Whole Foods. Chipotle will even be offering kids the chance to design their own organic t-shirt and receive a free kids’ meal card.

Doors will be open from 11am-4pm and the event will take place at the Pennsylvania Convention Center Annex. If you can’t take the train in, there is a 50% discounted parking coupon on the Festival’s website.

The Philly Farm and Food Fest is presented by Whole Foods Market in collaboration with Fair Food Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA). Sponsors include: Chipotle Mexican GrillPhilly.com/foodThe Reinvestment FundThe Merchant’s FundMidAtlantic Farm CreditCoBankAgChoice Farm CreditKimberton Whole FoodsClean Currents PA.
