Whether you live in Los Angeles or just visiting, chances are you may be dining in a Celebrity owned restaurant. On a whim last Summer we visited Beso in Hollywood, a Latin inspired restaurant owned by actress Eva Longoria. While we didn’t write a review on it then, we definitely knew we’d be back this Summer. We are happy to report the food was just as good as it was a year ago.
Now, before we share what we had, we want to take a moment to address all those reviewers out there who seem to forget a few things about big city/fine dining…
*First of all, if you’re going to dine at a fancy restaurant…be prepared to spend! If money is an issue, look up the menu, call the restaurant, read some reviews and then decide if it’s worth it. Remember, most of these celebrity-like places are centered on small plates with big price tags. It’s just the way it is. You’re paying for the whole experience. We’ve been to some pricey places, but you won’t hear us complain… unless the food was not worth it. (Which is why we bring you these reviews in the first place!)
*Secondly, if you’re going to hit up a trendy spot on a Friday or Saturday night, make reservations in advance. Call the day of and voice your expectations of being seated on time and at a decent table. Make sure your whole party arrives on time. In fact, get there 5 minutes early. It’s going to be noisy. It’s going to be busy. Give yourself plenty of time if you’re trying to catch a movie or other event afterward. If you’d rather not deal, visit the restaurant when it’s not so busy. As is the case with most of the Hollywood night scene and other big cities, you have to expect some fuss. It’s all about appearances. Which leads us to the next point….
*Dress to impress. You’re going out to a nice place, dress the part. If you look like a slob you’ll probably be treated like one. While it may not be right, again, it’s just the way it is.
*Lastly, if after all the above points have been considered, you are still not experiencing delicious food and great customer service….voice your concern immediately. Ask for the manager. If he or she is not making sure you are a satisfied customer, kindly ask them for a number or email so you may contact the owner. Remember, you are paying top dollar for a top dollar experience. Sometimes the restaurant staff needs to be reminded of this too. Just always do it with class.
With all this being said, our experiences at Beso Restaurant have always been top notch! We were disappointed to see some reviews out there that were complaining about the restaurant’s prices and service. We had to set the record straight. Whether a slow Tuesday evening or a busy Friday night, our service, the food and the ambience was fantastic. Of course, we also took into consideration that the place turns into a night club at a certain time and that traffic in Hollywood is awful on just about any night. We highly recommend having dinner before 7pm on a weeknight if you’d like to avoid the rush.
The place is gorgeous inside. It has a very romantic vibe to it and the upstairs Estate Room is definitely worth checking out. Years after being open, it is also still one of the best celebrity spotting restaurants in Hollywood. What keeps us coming back to Beso, however, is the food. Yes, it is slightly pricey, but it is well worth it. (If you’re going to have one thing at Beso…make it the guacamole!!) Check out these amazing dishes:
We definitely hope to return to Beso Hollywood again soon, especially for Wine Wednesday! You’ll get a $60 dinner for 2 and one bottle of wine! Includes a caesar salad, choice of Skirt Steak or Chicken Enchiladas, and Churros for Dessert. Great way to sample some of the menu at a reasonable price.
Celebrity owned restaurants and celebrity chefs are a dime a dozen, especially in Hollywood. The fact that Beso is still going strong after over 5 years of being open should be a testament that Ms. Longoria and celeb chef Todd English were on to something.
