On Sunday, August 25th 2013, we attended the 3rd annual L.A. Food and Wine Fest. Even better, we attended the Lexus Grand Tasting at the festival! Last year we attended a few of the events and seminars which were held at the J.W. Marriott Hotel at L.A. Live. To read our review of our experience at last year’s festival: Click here.
This year, while we were disappointed the Grand Tasting had changed locations, one step into the new venue, L.A. Center Studios 1 & 2, and we knew we were in for an amazing ride. We met and mingled with some terrific wineries and well respected chefs. Of course, the excellent wines and food we sampled were definitely the stars of the weekend.
Some favorites in the “foodie” department included: Chef Vartan Abgaryan from Public Kitchen and Bar at the The Roosevelt Hotel, Chef Justin Everett from Murray Circle, and Bryon Freeze from Mucho Ultima. They all served up some unique and delicious dishes.
Extra special treats: chatting with Celebrity Chef Todd Fisher from the Discovery Channel’s United States of Bacon and having him feed bacon to one of our friends. 😉 We also got to talk to Top Chef Fabio Viviani as he signed his latest cookbook for fans. Both terrific guys and chefs who truly love what they do!
Some stand out wines included: Merryvale Cabernet Sauvignon, Justin Isosceles, Testa Rosa Pinot Noir, and Drew Barrymore’s new line of Pinot Grigio, which really took us by surprise! (Separate review post coming soon).
While we were not able to attend more events due to a wedding one of us was in that weekend, the Lexus Grand Tasting was a whole, memorable event in itself which we hope to attend again next year. Other events, which took place from Thursday the 22nd through Sunday the 25th, included cooking demonstrations throughout Los Angeles with Celebrity chefs like Giada de Laurentiis, Curtis Stone, Iron Chef Morimoto, Duff Goldman and Ben Ford and Ziggy Marley. There were also wine and beer presentations and seminars, special lunches and dinners at popular restaurants, and several parties and other events throughout Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Downtown L.A.
If you are a food and/or wine lover and have never been to this type of event, you don’t know what you’re missing! Food & Magazine, along with Lexus and several other sponsors, really know how to through a bash in style. We’d like to thank Wagstaff Worldwide for their hospitality and helping to organize this great event. Ticket proceeds benefited the Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry® campaign to help end childhood hunger in America.
Look out for other Food & Wine Festivals all over the U.S. and beyond: Pebble Beach, Hawaii, Las Vegas, New York, South Beach, Atlanta, Austin, and of course the Classic in Aspen, and many, many more.
