This past week it definitely felt like Autumn around here. The temps dropped a little and it rained a lot. A glass (or two), or a bottle (or three), of some juicy, rich, deep red/purple Malbec was the perfect ending to a long week. Affordable, excellent values…Check out these great finds:
Winemaker’s Notes: Vibrant red color with aromas of red cherries, raspberries, and violets wafting from the glass along with notes of toasty oak. On the palate, the fresh berry flavors mingle with spice notes and there’s a hint of soft caramel on the finish. This is a creamy, medium-bodied and well-structured wine that is incredibly full of life. Goes great with everything from hamburgers and chicken to pasta and mild cheeses.
Our Thoughts and Pairings: A deliciously complex Malbec. Such a variety of aromas, from floral to earthy, that blended so well together. Just as intense in flavor, with traces of cherry, red and ripe fruits, and hints of spice. Velvety smooth. Enjoyed this all by itself. No steak needed. Excellent value for the price. We give it an “A”!
Winemaker’s Notes: Intense and lively red purple color. Intense red ripe fruit aromas such as prunes and cherries with black pepper and tobacco. Can also detect chocolate, cherry liqueur and spicy notes. Soft and velvety entry, firm tannins with lovely juicy finish.
Our Thoughts and Pairings: Strong aromas of cherries and ripe fruit, but flavors of plums and dark fruits with oak and earthiness, and a hint of chocolate. Medium to full-bodied; smoother as it breathed. Must pair with steak. Good value. We give it a “B+”.
Winemaker’s Notes: The diversity of vineyards and different climatic conditions brings about a greater complexity of aromas in this noble grape transforming it into a very interesting wine. Purplish red color. Fresh aromas, fruity, red fruits, plums and strawberries, with a delicate hint of vanilla. In the mouth it is smooth, and has a harmonious finish. We strive to achieve a Malbec with a deep purple color, with a high intensity of black fruits, raspberries, and violets.
Our Thoughts and Pairings: A great value for the price. This Malbec is full-bodied, complex, dry and smooth all at the same time. Floral aromas mixed in with traces of blackberry and strawberry and spice. Decanted for almost an hour, Flavors of plum, dark fruits and oak paired perfectly with some grilled lamb kabobs. Just as good on its own. Oh, and its made using sustainable farming methods! We give it an “A-“. 😉
