Philly’s First Official Wine Party

madewithOver (1)

On Sunday, March 23rd, we attended Philly’s first Wine Week inaugural celebration at Ristorante Panorama and Wine Bar. The “Bubbles & Barrels” party began at 5pm and went on until 8pm. The bubbles being served at the bar were endless and some favorite local PA wineries were there pouring the reds and whites. Ristorante Panorama featured some light bites and Di Bruno Brothers were there with some of our favorite cheeses.

William Eccleston, wine director at Panorama, and Kate Moroney, wine director at Vintage Wine Bar & Bistro, toasted the night and full week of wine events ahead. Special guest Georges Perrier, completed the toast when he “cut” open a bottle of champagne with a sabre (small curved sword!) and poured for all the guests. It was a a fun evening and great time to just relax and share some laughs with fellow wine lovers. Tickets sold for $40 with 10% of the proceeds being donated to PAWS (Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society).

You may have missed opening night, but the week is only half way done. Over 20 favorite Philly restaurants and wine bars are hosting plenty of unique and fun events all week.  To see a complete list and schedule of restaurants and events visit Philly Wine Week’s WebsiteFacebook and Twitter.

Enjoy the slideshow from our time at “Bubbles & Barrels” at Ristorante Panorama  & Wine Bar. Cheers!

  1. I thought it was a great evening, but I was less than impressed with the PA wines. The Penns Wood Chard and the Karamoor ’10 Cab Franc being the exceptions. I was there with Jeff Alexander of PA Vine Co. Do you know him?

    • No, we’ve never met him, just a little twitter chat here and there. Agreed on the Chard and Cab Franc! We enjoyed the Crossing Vineyards red blend too, but other than that there wasn’t much to choose from. Had a funky Sauvignon Blanc we’re still not sure if we liked or not from Black Walnut.

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year! We are so excited for the upcoming 2nd Annual Philly Wine Week. This year the party and toasting will get started at the “Opening Corks” gala, held at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts on Sunday March 22nd. Guests will enjoy a selection of premium sparkling, white & rosé wines, paired with a variety of hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are still selling for $75. For a sneak peak check out our review of last year’s festivities.

Philly Wine Week will continue with a long list of participating restaurants and bars celebrating all things wine with special menus and events. For more information and a full list of participants and fun activities for the week visit the Philly Wine Week Website, follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Hope to see you during Wine Week…Cheers!
